Perspectives On Digital Access

Description

This conversation aims to inform and provoke discussion about rethinking digital access and digital literacy amongst older people.

About this event

Although the recent pandemic has accelerated and widened the use of digital technologies across generations, many older people are finding it increasingly difficult to access essential goods and services due to a lack of access to the internet and/or technical skills, as well as badly designed technology. This conversation aims to inform and provoke discussion about rethinking digital access and digital literacy amongst older people. Four speakers from the UK and Ireland will talk about their own creative approach to widening digital access and the potential offered by the internet.

Featuring:

Helen Manchester, Associate Professor in Digital Inequalities and Urban Futures at the University of Bristol.

Karin Diamond of Re-Live, an award-winning charity providing a dynamic programme of Life Story Theatre, Arts in Health group work and experiential training.

Ross Dowd, a Dublin-based industrial and interaction designer who focuses on designing meaningful interactions.

Ruthanne Baxter, Civic Engagement Manager for the University of Edinburgh Heritage Collections and founder of Prescribe Culture.

Phyl O'Connor, retired for almost 14 years and living in a very rural area in NTH West Donegal Gaeltacht.

This event is presented in partnership with Luminate (Scotland), Gwanwyn (Wales) & Age of Creativity (England) festivals.
