Position Summary

The Technology Department of the National MS Society partners with staff and leadership to provide technology support and expertise to reshape the way work is done.  In everything we do, we consider new approaches and use technology to increase effectiveness. 

 

We have an opportunity for you to join our team as a Data & Integration Engineer.

 

Your key responsibilities include:

 

Data Engineering & Integration 80% 

  • Work with Data analysts, Data Architect, and various groups to collect requirements and translate those into database models and data flows
  • Design and develop advanced SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, scripts, fine-tuning the Data Dictionary
  • Examine SQL stored Procedures and determine areas of code improvement following SQL Best Practice.
  • Understand various business needs and requirements for a consistent and flexible set of data rules and standards.
  • Translate data and technology requirements into our ETL/ELT architecture.
  • Understand standard ETL tools and techniques, sourcing, maintaining, and updating data, data warehousing, data cleansing, and other analytical techniques required for data usage.
  • Deploy data processing jobs to production, configure and schedule data pipeline.
  • Ensure solution exhibits high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, appropriate reusability, and reliability upon deployment.

Training, Knowledge Sharing & Documentation 15% 

  • Able to clearly document dataflow, ETL Pipeline, Unit testing
  • Able to clearly articulate breadth of topics such as SQL Server, ETL, data warehousing, data modeling, containerization, etc.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the analysis, preparation of specifications and plans for the development of data processes.

 

Market and Volunteer Engagement 5% 

  • Support local market/office, including but not limited to attending market/office meetings 
  • Actively participate in local market/office events as a participant or volunteer 

 

Qualifications

Here's what you will bring to the role:

 

Education -  ☒ BA/BS      

6 plus years of industry experience with minimum bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

 

 

Minimum Experience/Skills /Competencies

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • Profound knowledge and ability to write Ad hoc Queries, stored procs, user defined functions, views, and indexes
  • Hands-on experience in optimizing ETL pipelines and query performance tuning (preferably SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Talend)
  • Expertise with DDL and DML statements, RDBMSs, data dictionaries and normal forms
  • Strong in performance tuning especially complex queries, stored procedures and indexing strategies.
  • Advanced data analysis, validation, and processing skills.
  • Experience in designing solutions with large disparate datasets (ERP, CRM (Salesforce will be huge plus), 3rd Party APIs, etc.)
  • Hands on big data performance tuning and optimization experience with Microsoft Azure, specifically Azure, Azure SQL
  • Experience with big data cross platform compatible file formats like Apache Avro & Apache Parquet
  • Experience in Data Warehouse Concepts such as Slowly Changing Dimensions, Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, and other Data Warehouse Concepts related terms
  • Contribute heavily to delivery with Agile methods and System Life Cycle Management tools –, JIRA, Bit bucket/Git, Azure DevOps Pipelines, Redgate, SQL DACPAC, etc.
  • Goal-oriented team member adept at building strong relationships with coworkers and business users.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Technical aptitude and experience to learn new technologies and understand relevant cloud trend

Other requirements

  • Huge Plus if hands-on experience in DevOps, automating, and deploying packages between different environments, proficient in PowerShell & containerization

Estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $92,000 - $110,000 based on an average compensation schedule.  Final offers will be based on candidate geographic location and consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
