About Trevor

The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people. We are a non-profit that provides 24/7 life-saving support via phone, text, and chat. We also operate the world’s largest safe space social networking site for LGBTQ youth and run innovative research, education, and advocacy programs. We’ve been saving lives every day for over 20 years.

Overview of the role

The Director of Product Management will focus on leading a team of Product Managers and Associate Product Managers to develop visions, sustainable strategies, and roadmaps across broad product portfolios including: volunteer journey management, crisis services (chat/text/phone), workforce management, and online community. You will help the team operate effectively, ensuring they have the right inputs, access to stakeholders, and the support they need to be successful. This role provides the opportunity to lead the evolvement of a growing product team by building impact-driven processes and best practices. As a leader at The Trevor Project, you will also help cultivate a positive and collaborative working environment focused on continuous improvement, growth, and teamwork.

Who you are

  • Experienced. You have 3+ years of experience as a Product Manager and 2+ years of experience leading Product Managers. You are experienced with mentoring, developing, and coaching Product Managers, especially as it relates to their ability to build product roadmaps, in order to build highly productive and effective product teams. You preferably have experience working on call center solutions, case management systems, and/or workforce optimization systems, but that background is not required.

  • Inspirational Leader. You are an emotionally intelligent, charismatic, and authentic leader who has experience building a team culture focused on growth, learning, and impact.

  • Builder. You’re someone who thinks strategically. You’re excited about the opportunity to take the status quo as just a starting point, then implement best practices and continually innovate.

  • Goal-oriented. You set actionable metrics and goals that are ambitious yet achievable, and then you work to exceed them.

  • Accountability. You are diligent in your work, taking accountability on execution and planning. Accountability means ownership to you.

  • Communicator. You have superior communication skills both in verbal and in written form, and the savviness to influence decisions that deliver goal-oriented outcomes.

  • Collaborative. Your natural inclination is to work collaboratively, to be transparent, to be present, and to continuously seek and give feedback.

  • Flexible. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity; and adjust your process to the context you’re working in.

  • Passionate. You care about LGBTQ youth. You care about saving lives. You want to come to work and feel inspired every day. You want to change the world.

  • Fun. The work we do is very serious, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have fun. We know how to have a good time and you should too.

What you’ll do

  • Partner with product managers to develop a continuous, multi-year roadmap plan with active input from users, stakeholders, and executive leadership

  • Lead ideation of product changes that drive organizational growth and increase our ability to serve more LGBTQ youth in crisis

  • Ensure all product deliverables meet or exceed our standards and that risks are effectively managed

  • Create accelerated learnings and innovation opportunities by setting desired outcomes for experiments, analyze results, and determine follow-up and next step strategies

  • Lead and manage a highly effective, impact-driven, and visible team within the organization

  • Continuously improve processes and support overall product operations

  • Manage, mentor, coach, and empower other product managers

  • Hire new staff as the product team grows, ultimately building a diverse and happy team

  • Generous vacation and holidays (like a full day off to celebrate Harvey Milk Day!), including three half-day Fridays during the summer

  • Comprehensive health insurance (we pay 100% of your premiums for medical, dental, and life), including gender affirmation surgery

  • Flexibility to work from anywhere in the U.S. (we provide the technology, a monthly internet reimbursement and a reimbursement to outfit your work-from-home space!)

  • Fun virtual office environment and passionate team

  • Online Subscription to Headspace, a digital meditation platform

  • Meaningful work at an organization that is saving the lives of LGBTQ young people across America every day

  • The Trevor Project is an equal opportunity employer
