Audere is Seattle-based 501(c)(3) building software solutions to revolutionize detection, treatment, and eradication of diseases like COVID-19, malaria, and HIV. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Audere is partnering with global health NGOs, innovative diagnostics manufacturers, and similar mission-driven organizations in low- and middle-income countries to deliver simple-to-use digital solutions and scalable cloud services to make a positive impact in the world. Our team includes experienced technologists hailing from some of the largest software and healthcare companies, bringing their skills, passion, and expertise to bear as we create novel approaches leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision.

We’re a small, vibrant startup and everyone here is hands-on, proactive, and committed to the mission. If you’re passionate about creating and delivering cutting-edge solutions for some of the world’s hardest to solve problems, have a growth mindset, embrace ambiguity, love data, and are willing to be scrappy - we’d love to talk to you!

As a Software Engineer on the Frontend team at Audere, you will contribute to the next generation mobile applications that help community health workers in some of the world’s most underserved communities diagnose, track, and treat disease. Our apps integrate world-class computer vision algorithms, highly polished UX design, and novel workflow tools, and yet must run well on low-end hardware, preserve battery life, and operate in places where network connectivity is intermittent at best. So we’ve got plenty of challenges for people who love tackling tough problems.

Our apps are written in ReactNative, using Redux for state management. We write custom, native code for the computer vision pipeline and the components that provide resilient data upload in the face of network outages. The apps communicate with Audere’s backend systems (hosted in AWS) for authentication, data upload, and analytics. Our mobile code is organized as a platform, so that we can easily build multiple applications that share a common core.

Responsibilities include:

  • Write code in JavaScript, Swift, and Java to implement mobile app features.

  • Collaborate with PM, design, and other engineers to design features to meet product requirements.

  • Deeply understand and build empathy for users of Audere products.

  • Champion product quality, excellence in execution, and privacy and regulatory compliance.

  • Continuously assess opportunities for improvement by analyzing product performance in production, competitive offerings, user needs, and technological trends.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience. Lack of a degree is fine if you have significant software engineering experience.

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience.

  • Experience with React or React Native preferred.

  • Experience developing mobile applications for iOS and Android.

  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to operate in an ambiguous environment.

  • Experience working with a distributed team with diverse ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives.

  • Experience with developing medical devices, point-of-care diagnostics, or medical imaging products in a customer-focused organization is a plus.

  • Willingness to learn and a desire to grow in a mission-driven start-up organization.

  • Able to work in the US (does not need visa sponsorship).

Audere offers full medical, dental, and vision benefits, along with a 401(k) plan with matching benefits. We also offer unlimited paid time off, because we believe in balance. At Audere, we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone can do their best work and believe our team should reflect the diversity of the people we serve - race, gender, age, ability, cultures, and beliefs. We are a team of smart, dedicated technologists who love to have a laugh and to solve meaningful world problems by applying the latest technology. Will you join us?

Audere is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family, medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws. Audere does not exclude people or treat them differently because of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex. Audere provides reasonable accommodation to all applicants to apply for positions and to all employees to perform essential functions of their roles.
