The Lead UI Designer is responsible for the creation and upkeep of the user interfaces of AAMC.org and its related properties. Incumbent serves as expert UI designer to collaborate with Marketing, Product Development, and Executive teams in the development of the website and related digital products to create an enjoyable experience with the AAMC brand that positively impacts external users’ impressions and behaviors and makes them want to return to AAMC.org time and time again.
How will you make an impact?

Creates and maintains website aesthetics, graphics, layouts, and prototypes to support the AAMC’s voice, tone, and brand identity.

Reviews, updates, and maintains all elements of site designs, interfaces, and interactions, from a human-factors perspective (i.e., ergonomics of human/computer interaction, workflow analysis, user research) to ensure maximum usability and alignment with the AAMC’s business objectives.

Establishes and maintains the organization's user interface standards, techniques, and methods, including defining internal guidelines, user research practices, testing methodologies, and the like.

Analyzes website technology and user experience industry trends to identify new techniques and ensure optimal user satisfaction and site functionality.

Utilizes specialized depth and breadth of expertise in discipline or function; individual contributor recognized as a subject matter expert, providing advanced critical and analytical support to management team.

Applies specialized knowledge of user experience and user research to solve a full range of complex problems.

Interprets internal and external challenges and recommends, creates, and develops, innovative solutions and/or best practices to meet these challenges.

Produces graphic design for material for communications media such as magazines, promotional materials, brochures, catalogs, technical manuals, print advertising, multi-media presentations, and websites.

Leads projects or project steps of varying size and has accountability for ongoing activities related to projects.

Represents work unit or cluster in meetings.

May participate in industry/knowledge reference group(s).

May step in for manager during an absence.

Coaches, mentors and/or trains less senior colleagues.

Serves as trusted resource for management.
What you will bring to the role?
-
Bachelor’s degree in digital design, interface design, visual design, graphic communications or related field—or equivalent experience. Minimum 8 years of successful professional design experience.

Must have a background in UI and UX design, web/digital design and production, user interface design, and an understanding of UX research.

Highly proficient using Sketch to produce visuals for website, user interfaces, interactive prototypes, applications, graphics, typography, and other digital assets.

Experienced in HTML/CSS, Drupal, and other relevant design and web tools (InVision and Adobe Creative Suite).

In-depth knowledge of capabilities and limitations of web technologies.

Experience with the following not required, but a plus: mobile platforms, accessibility, Google analytics, and identity design.

Preferably worked at a digital agency or in-house communications and marketing team, in a collaborative team environment.

Outstanding written, verbal, and visual communications skills. Familiarity with health care, higher education issues a plus.

Constant desire to learn and grow professionally and personally. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and new technologies is essential.

If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
