Job Purpose – What You Will Do
The Data Analyst will support the Associate Director, Data in implementing the organization’s overall data collection, management, and reporting plan and will ensure the collection and maintenance of high-quality data. They will work with experts across the organization and leverage technology to make data more accessible for program delivery, analysis, and reporting. The Data Analyst will understand internal staff needs, funder deliverables, and organizational strategies to create reports, dashboards, and presentations. They will also use technical and statistical best practices and methods to query, analyze and visualize data using complex data sets.
Data Collection & Management
- Develop and implement data collection plans and tools to capture and organize data.
- Monitor enrollment in and engagement with Healthier Generation programs and services.
- Train internal staff in data collection and entry processes and provide ongoing support and assistance.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Clean, sort, categorize and organize data.
- Analyze quantitative data using descriptive and inferential statistics
- Develop monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Compile data and create presentations as requested for meetings, proposals, and reports; prepare narratives and reports summarizing findings
- Create and maintain rich, interactive visualizations using custom SQL and 3rd party software (including Knowi)
- Work with colleagues across teams on the development of internal data collection and analysis plans, and be responsive to project-specific data needs
- Write procedures/functions to make data evaluation processes more flexible or scalable across data sets
- Write, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL queries
- Conduct data analyses and create data products in report or presentation format to meet staff and stakeholder specifications and timelines
- Integrate various reporting components from multiple data sources (including Healthier Generation-specific data and extant public use data sets) for data mining, exploratory analysis, analysis, and interpretation to support the organization’s strategic framework
- Use statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, SPSS) to process and analyze data to identify trends and correlations among population indicators and performance measures to inform internal strategic planning, program delivery, and the wider field of children’s health
- Ensure best practices and ethical principles are applied in accessing, collecting, analyzing, using, maintaining, and disseminating data and information
- Tell meaningful stories with data to a variety of audiences using various types of analytical software, business intelligence and visualization tools
Data Maintenance and Integrity
- Develop, implement, and conduct data quality audits
- Complete data entry and updates at regularly scheduled intervals including but not limited to:
- Data change requests with HG staff and our external data provider
- Semi-annual update of our system’s data from our external data provider
- Processing program enrollments and transitions
- Monitor data mailbox for ad hoc requests

Education and experience requirements for this role:
- At least 3-5 years data management and analysis experience required
- 3+ years’ experience developing complex reporting solutions in Excel
- 3+ years’ experience using SQL or similar programming language to query against large data sets and/or databases
- 3+ years’ experience working directly with end-users of reports
- Experience relevant to the fields of data analytics in education or public health preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s Degree preferred in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Public Health, Social Science, or related field. Can be substituted with equivalent experience and/or certification(s).

- Possesses strong quantitative skills and able to clean and analyze large datasets.

- Ability to work with a variety of information systems and data, including large and complex files: analyzing file structure, using and creating file layouts, transforming raw data into finished products.
- Proficiency in standard office software applications required.
- Intermediate to advanced SQL skills required.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Experience with statistical software is preferred.
- Ability to use data visualization software (e.g., Chartio, Knowi)
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional organization skills.
- Proven ability to work at a high level of independence, prioritize assignments and organizational needs to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a virtual team environment.
- Ability to learn new skills quickly, willingness to expand current knowledge base
- Ability to travel by car or plane up to 5% of the time.

Each job at Healthier Generation is assigned to a salary grade built on market data. For an individual coming into Healthier Generation, we set pay generally between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary grade and based on qualifications. For this position, the minimum is $68,642 and the midpoint is $82,370.
