We are currently seeking a Solar Programs - Senior Software Product Owner to join our Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) team and work in close coordination with the Information Systems (IS) team. You will support the DERs team by translating the department’s operational needs for the IS team, managing growth through effective prioritization, and stakeholder engagement. 

As a member of the DERs team, you will assist with driving customer participation in programs that incentivize the adoption of distributed and community solar. These leading-edge energy technologies are critical in driving our nation’s progress toward a decarbonized grid, and you will play a material role in helping our team make this future a reality.


Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Leading collaboration with internal and external business stakeholders to clearly define the needs of the business 
  • Direct client communications 
  • Owning the product backlog and applying understanding of complex business needs to prioritize functional enhancements 
  • Owning direction, management, quality control and completion of software and/or program deliverables  
  • Contributing to proposal content development efforts  
  • Developing risk management strategies and implementation best practices  
  • Coordinate and provide estimates for complex projects or assigned components 
  • Communicating status and results of product development efforts to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Organizing and facilitating in-person meetings, conference calls, and facilitated collaboration sessions  

IS Coordination:

  • Maintain and communicate clear high-level priorities for IS development, on behalf of DERs stakeholders 
  • Complete ticket-level triage and prioritization for use by IS software project managers 
  • Review tickets after release and ensure any follow-up steps are completed 
  • Coordinate with DERs Subject Matter Experts to provide input on feature design and specifications 

DERs Coordination:

  • Drive consensus on development priorities in coordination with department leadership (Directors and above) 
  • Support DERs stakeholders in raising development needs, including escalations, while limiting disruption to the IS team 

GMS/BD Coordination:

  • Provide input regarding G/NG decisions on RFPs 
  • Review/edit all draft proposals for accuracy and feasibility 
  • Develop new proposal content (custom and standardized) as needed 
  • Present during and provide content for proposal interviews 


Minimum qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in an energy, engineering, or environmental related discipline 
  • A minimum of eight years of work experience and/or graduate school   
  • A minimum of seven years project management or business analyst experience    
  • Familiarity with common software project management tools (Jira, Confluence) 
  • Experience working in Agile software development life cycle   
  • Demonstrated outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, including risk management and mitigation   
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed technical and quantitative analysis   
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients and to serve as the primary point of client contact for some projects   
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Office365, SharePoint, OneNote)   
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills 
  • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination  


Salary DOE:  $110k - $145k/Annually

Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous retirement package. Energy Solutions provides an excellent benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, other pre-tax contribution plans and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
