This includes TurboVote, Democracy Works Election Data, the Voting Information Project (VIP), and Ballot Scout. We also co-founded the Civic Alliance alongside the CAA Foundation. Democracy Works is committed to diversity and inclusion in everything we do and aspires to have a team that's representative of the voters we serve.

The impact you’ll make:

You’ll be joining our Product team at an exciting moment. As a Product Manager you will work to improve customer experiences and be a champion for continuous innovation - identifying, prioritizing, and executing on product improvements.

In doing so, you’ll be supported by a team of software developers, other members of the Product Team; a team of researchers who bring extensive knowledge of election administration, and a partner support team with significant experience implementing across higher education, nonprofit, and corporate environments.

You will

  • Join a tight knit, agile tech teams of engineers and product designers (as well as other internal and external stakeholders when it makes sense) to conceive and prioritize, scope and build, ship and refine useful, effective experiences. Get to know a lot about voters and work to champion their needs across our products.
  • Inform product strategy by monitoring competitors and understanding end-user and partner needs
  • Create product requirements, user stories and specifications for new features and improvements to existing features
  • Acceptance test new features and updates, verifying that we’re always giving voters our best work
  • Collaborate with product designers and software developers to define implementation for new features, ensure clear conditions of acceptance, and take part in regular sprint-planning meetings with the developer team to prioritize their work
  • Collaborate closely with fellow product managers across tech features and tech teams to deliver an ever-improving, consistent end-user experience across user scenarios.
  • Help shape user personas guiding the development of new and existing products and programs in collaboration with user research, data, program and product partners as necessary
  • Engage stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle
  • Work closely with election research, product design, marketing, partnerships and development teams to ensure new and existing supporters and partners can discover and appreciate how our user experiences help Americans vote by providing reliable, useful voting guidance through the sites, apps and groups they trust
  • Execute on other tasks as may be assigned

You are

  • Empathetic and comfortable acting as users’ biggest advocate
  • Attentive to detail
  • Persuasive and able to communicate your vision to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A fantastic listener
  • Creative in the way that can pare ideas down to a clear wireframe and an initial MVP
  • A systems thinker who loves nothing more than breaking down how things work
  • Passionate about building tools that reach underserved voters

You have experience

  • Working in a product role in a technical setting
    • OR experience working under-the-hood on elections-related technology, whether in customer support, a programmatic role, IT or technical support, or a QA position
  • Communicating across different areas of expertise and working in teams with diverse skills
  • Supporting users (or customers) and learning their needs
  • Writing concise, clear material on complex subjects
  • Drafting robust project requirements, whether solo or in collaboration with a technical team
