The online platform consists of a matching algorithm, video, chat messaging, and file sharing technology along with high-quality classroom activities. Overview of the Role

Empatico is seeking a talented Principal Engineer (Head of Engineering) to lead the engineering team and help shape the future of the Empatico platform. We are seeking someone who is empathetic, thoughtful, collaborative and entrepreneurial. The ideal candidate needs to have proven experience in building and scaling modern web platforms. The Empatico frontend is a modern React application with a Ruby on Rails service layer. This role reports to the CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and Lead the software development process to achieve the product strategy
  • Develop and architect most effective technical solutions to meet the organization requirements
  • Manage, develop and mentor a talented engineering team
  • Participate in design reviews and recommend improvements
  • Provide support in all aspects of the software development life cycle to ensure delivery of high quality products
  • Partner with design and product management leads in executing the product strategy
  • Collaborate with design and product leads to guide long range ideation from a technical (architectural) perspective

Requirements

Requirements and Experience

  • Engineering degree, or related technical discipline or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years professional software engineering experience with a record of delivering successful products
  • Proven experience in developing successful full stack applications
  • 2+ years of experience as a people manager
  • Solid background in technical architecture
  • Proven experience building complex web systems
  • Proven experience in agile software development methodologies
  • Excellent knowledge of building modern frontend web applications, building and consuming APIs
  • Experience managing cloud workflow: AWS, CI/CD and container based deployment
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and tools. Ideally: Ruby on Rails, TypeScript/JS, React, GraphQL, docker, git, webpack
  • Strong mentoring skills
  • Solid programming disciplines and code quality standards
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present to leadership
