Azavea is looking for a fast-learning and meticulous person to join our team as a  Bookkeeper. You will carry out bookkeeping and accounting tasks for a small mission-driven software technology firm. You have a sharp eye for detail and are a strong communicator. While you will be working closely with a supportive team, you should also be comfortable working independently, and demonstrate a strong sense of initiative, ownership, and responsibility.

You will be part of our Administrative team.  We believe that the current workload will be 20-30 hours per week and will include the following activities.

What You'll Do:

    • Enter bills and payments
    • Enter credit card receipts
    • Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards
    • Manage accounting email account
    • Import, review and manage timesheet entries
    • Generate invoices and communicate with clients regarding invoices and payments
    • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure project status reports are aligned with invoicing requirements
    • Track metrics and analytics related to sustainability (energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions)
    • Generate monthly reports

You Should Have:

    • Experience with QuickBooks or a similar accounting system
    • Proficiency with basic business applications (i.e. GSheets, Excel, etc)
    • Meticulous attention to detail
    • Strong organization and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently and use initiative to get things done
    • Internal motivation and a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
    • Approach people, processes, and problems with empathy, kindness, and respect
    • Demonstrate organization and time management skills
    • Look for opportunities to improve the processes and environment around you
    • Excellent phone, email, and in-person communication skills
A note on hiring during the COVID-19 pandemic 
Due to regulations in Philadelphia and our concern for the health and safety of our team, we will be conducting all interviews remotely for the foreseeable future. The majority of our colleagues generally work out of our Philadelphia office, but we have transitioned the entire company to remote work. If the office remains closed at the time of hiring, we have made arrangements for remote on-boarding, including shipping relevant materials and a laptop to your home. We are fortunate to have invested in meaningful work-from-home tools and processes over the years, and have been able to continue providing a secure, flexible, and safe work environment for all of our colleagues. When the stay-at-home orders are lifted, we will reopen our office, and we expect that this position will require working from the office 1-2 days per week.

Our Philadelphia headquarters is located in a brightly lit office on the 5th floor of a converted factory building in the Callowhill neighborhood, a short walk from Center City, the Reading Terminal Market, and SEPTA subway and regional rail stations. For bicyclists, we have in-house bike parking, showers, and lockers. The office itself is assembled as an open office plan with several smaller rooms for team meetings and concentration time.
