The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a national, non-partisan organization that uses the power of information to protect the environment and human health. EWG seeks a detail-oriented, creative, deadline-driven applications engineer to assist with development of several of our web sites which include EWG, Skin Deep©, Healthy Living Cleaning Guide, and Food Scores. This person will also support the Healthy Living team with our EWG Verified™ program.
The Senior Ruby on Rails engineer will take responsibility for programming and implementing features within an existing Rails app.
This person will ensure projects are completed according to established timelines with creativity and professionalism. Experience with Ruby, Rails, and version control is required.
This person will lead collaboration with project leads, scientists, analysts, and other developers to develop innovative solutions that help further EWG’s mission.
Minimum five years of recent experience building and maintaining web-based software systems at scale, specifically Ruby on Rails.
Experience integrating with third-party (APIs) and/or contributing to Machine Learning algorithms.
Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
Experience using version control software as part of a team.
Experience with PHP a plus.
Experience with cloud technologies. AWS experience a plus.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills
Location: Washington, DC office
