Duties: The Senior Software Engineer (multiple positions open) at Earnest LLC in San Francisco, California will build the software that is revolutionizing consumer lending, automating the loan approval process and orchestrating the transfer of billions of dollars. Build customer-facing software products and solutions using Node.js, Scala, TypeScript, React/Redux, Angular, Sequelize, PostgreSQL, and Docker. Write unit and integration tests using Javascript, Node.js, Mocha, Chai, Sinon, Sequelize. Document technical designs in Confluence using proven software design principles and diagrams. Troubleshoot, identify, and fix defects through techniques such as debugging, profiling, logging, log analysis via Splunk, tracing reproduction steps and using tools such as FullStory to replay user sessions. Monitor deployment of code to Staging and, eventually to production environments using CI/CD tools like Jenkins. Work with the Quality Engineering team to address any issues found in testing. Attend and participate in various agile software development process meetings, such as daily standups, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, sprint planning and software effort sizing. Document, decompose and size project stories in ticket management tools like JIRA into development tasks that engineers can take ownership of and code per the stated acceptance criteria. Review and provide critical feedback on Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), Epics, and Stories written by Product Managers in JIRA. Provide recommendations to Product Management and Engineering Management on alternative solutions that would optimize the development of the proposed product features in terms of speed of delivery, superior customer experience and/or cost saving. Provide on-call support for production application software system(s) that comprise of Earnest’s customer facing and internal lending systems; and respond to system alerts, triaging the problem via Splunk log and dashboard analysis, New Relic system and application monitors and AWS Cloudwatch monitors to determine the severity and priority of the problem.   Reports to the San Francisco Office, but telecommuting is permitted.

Requirements:  Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field plus 5 years of software development experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience, will accept a Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field plus 2 years of software development experience.  Must also have two years of experience with each of the following: (1) server-side concepts, including microservices, database, caching, performance, monitoring and scalability; (2) databases, including PostgresSQL; (3) Node.js; (4) working with AWS or another cloud-based infrastructure; and (4) working with container services, including Docker.
