A highly reliable SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 system is crucial to the success of our organization.

The Senior SharePoint Online Administrator reports to the Chief Technology Officer and works with other IT staff in a team environment to provide CBPP personnel with the technology support and service required.

CBPP operates a cloud and premise-based infrastructure using Cisco, Meraki, Microsoft Server, VMWare, AWS, Okta, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Windows autopilot, TeamViewer, Adobe Creative Cloud, Veeam, Druva, and Microsoft Intune Services.

We operate Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS), Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS-based systems and support on-premises and remote users.

While we are currently operating as a 100 percent virtual organization during the pandemic, we are developing policies to support a return to in-office work and may develop a work environment that includes time for both telework and in-person work. This position will be subject to those policies but will also require some on-site in-person work both during the day and after hours as needed when others are permitted to telework to support the IT Department.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day support of all components of the SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environment — specifically, building and administering a customer-facing intranet portal and numerous collaboration sites, ensuring the operational health of the environment, including security, availability, performance, interoperability, and reliability.

  • Responsible for the continuous improvement and management of change affecting SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and other Microsoft 365 services, including typical system administrative activities such as site creation, site administration, and issue resolution.

  • Lead the administration, enhancement, and maintenance of the Center SharePoint portal.

  • Make recommendations for additional requirements to improve business collaboration and processes.

  • Extend SharePoint training to staff for optimum use of SharePoint Online in day-to-day operations.

  • Extract inputs from functions to streamline workflows and automation.

  • Architect, implement, and maintain the Center SharePoint cloud environment and intranet.

  • Provide administration, support, and configuration of Microsoft 365 tools for staff.

  • Analyze, recommend, and assist in implementing SharePoint technologies, including the development of SharePoint apps and workflows to meet business needs.

  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with Center staff to analyze information needs and functional requirements to enhance the platform.

  • Understand user and team business processes and propose ways to use SharePoint Online tools to maximize the Center’s workflow, efficiency, and effectiveness.

  • Develop training project plans and materials (documentation, interactive learning modules) for SharePoint Online, new company implementations, or upgrades to existing tool sets.

  • Development of applications and flows using Power Platform.

  • Performing data retrieval and backup procedures to prevent data loss.

  • Communicate effectively, listen actively, and translate complex, technical concepts into easy-to-understand language to assist non-technically oriented customers.

  • Take ownership of issues and follow through until resolved. Exercise excellent judgement as to when issues should be escalated and higher-level support is needed.

  • Properly escalate unresolved queries to the next level of support.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams to validate solutions, verify with users, and coach them in correcting reported problems as appropriate.


The successful candidate will bring a mix of the following skills and experiences:

  • Four-year bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or related scientific or technical discipline (or relevant practical experience) required.

  • Minimum of five years of hands-on administration and support of SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365.

  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure, Exchange Online, and Microsoft 365 tools, including but not limited to SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams and Power Platform and related resources.

  • Exposure to third-party technologies such as Salesforce that integrate and work with SharePoint.

  • Configuring SharePoint Online services and settings.

  • Documenting SharePoint Online configuration and architecture.

  • Creating and configuring modern SharePoint sites, sub-sites, administer, maintain, and manage their settings and permissions including external sharing.

  • Experience working with term stores, search, and its web parts.

  • Managing security for sites and sub-sites.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in SharePoint Online development, content migration, and end-user support.

  • Experience leading efforts in creating plans, schedules, and progress reports.

  • Experience conducting business analysis by analyzing strategy, performance, metrics, organizational structure, resources, core work activities, existing documentation, and supporting technology related to business processes.

  • Experience understanding and documenting user business processes and developing strategies to incorporate new technology into ongoing work.

  • Proven experience with adult learning principles, methodologies, and training design techniques.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including effective communication with users with a wide variety of technology skill levels and ability to function effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team.

  • Excellent writing skills and aptitude to translate technical documents into end-user friendly articles.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment; and flexible hours with occasional weekends and evenings when special operational circumstances require and without advance notice in the case of operational emergencies.

  • A minimum of two years’ experience supporting people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems for users remotely.

  • Skilled in handling multiple competing priorities and adapting to changes in workload; managing tickets against SLA, staying current with assigned work.

  • Knowledge of how to regularly update new and advanced technologies available in the market and using them in the network designs.

  • Commitment to acquiring relevant skills and domain knowledge (on an ongoing basis).

  • Ability to reflect on continuous improvement measures.

  • Ability to receive and provide respectful, direct, constructive feedback.

The following qualifications are a plus:

  • Certification(s) related to SharePoint Online or Microsoft 365 cloud environment such as Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator Expert preferred.

  • Experience with the nonprofit sector is preferred.

This position reports to the Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

Terms of Employment:  Full-time, exempt.
Bargaining Unit Status: This is a bargaining unit position.
