Education Analytics is a non-profit organization that uses data analysis to inform education policy decisions. We work with school districts, regional offices of education, non-profits, and policymakers to identify ways that make education systems better.


We are seeking a full-time Research Analyst to lead analysis of large educational data sets. An ideal candidate has strong statistical and programming skills, as well as an interest in education policy.


  • Lead and work within analyst team to complete various analysis projects and meet deadlines
  • Support technical advancement and uphold rigorous code standard on different projects across the analyst team (e.g. incorporate field best practices on coding and data, track programming packages)
  • Engage with and implement various statistical models with differing levels of specification (e.g. from academic papers, internal memos, verbal instructions)
  • Present analyses to researchers to drive analytic decisions
  • Ensure programmed models meet high level of quality
  • Develop visualizations and reports for less technical audiences
  • Ad-hoc requests for reports, visualizations and research projects
  • Investigate data sources, understand data quality, and process data according to agreed-upon rules


  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field from four-year college or university.
  • At least 2 years of experience in post-graduation professional or academic environment
  • Proficiency with a statistical programming language required (R strongly preferred)
  • Understanding of statistical modeling techniques like linear regression, logistic regressions, and machine learning required
  • Proficiency with SQL and SQL databases desired


Ability to implement models using statistical software and existing packages and understand whether they have been implemented correctly. Ability to program some statistical approaches from scratch without relying on pre-built software packages. Ability to follow technical instructions.


Ability to program functionally / modularly with dynamic structures. Familiarity with Git or version control software desired. Ability to program within existing style / best practice and offer suggestions on how the team’s collective style / best practice can evolve required.

Language Skills

Ability to understand and interpret academic/professional journals. Ability to help write technical reports and correspondence with clients. Ability to present information in verbal or written form and respond to questions from research staff, team members, and external clients.

The weekly hour expectation is 45 hours per week; additional nights and weekends are sometimes required.  Our preference is for candidates to primarily work from EA’s office in Madison, WI.   Our interview process includes a skills assessment and multiple remote interviews with analyst team members, as well as others at EA.
