About Us

Mighty Acorn was founded with the mission of using DevOps and Agile principles to facilitate positive change for real people. We use fast iteration, tight feedback loops, and a laser focus on the user to develop better Government Digital Service applications.

Our success in accomplishing that mission depends entirely on our staff. We enjoy working together and try to be honest with each other, even when that’s not easy. We expect each other to work hard and listen. We focus on goals, not methods. We understand that we’re all works in progress, and we try to approach each other with patience and compassion. We are in it for the long run.

Distributed work

We’re completely distributed and rely on a culture of open communication and self-accountability. It is up to you where you work, as long as you’re in the contiguous United States, the internet is fast and reliable enough for video calls, and background noise is at an appropriate level.

Due to contracting requirements, all employees are required to work from the contiguous United States.

Paid time off, sick time, and holidays

An annual time off policy that includes 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO), 5 days of Sick Leave, and 13 paid holidays. We also have bereavement leave.

Paid parental leave

1 month (20 days) paid parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child, which can either be taken all at once, or spread out over the first year of the child's life.

Health, vision, and dental insurance

We offer employees health, vision, and dental insurance, covering at least 75% of the cost, plus an additional 75% for employee + spouse, employee + kids, and family plans. Employees have access to these health plans starting on the first of the month, following their hire date. HSA and FSA options are available too.

Ancillary benefits

Life and accidental death insurance

Mighty Acorn purchases and maintains a 2x annual salary life (and AD&D) insurance policy for all full-time employees at no additional cost to the employee.

Supplemental life insurance coverage can be purchased at a discounted rate.

Short/long term disability insurance

Mighty Acorn covers all full-time employees for short term and long term disability at no additional cost to the employee. Short term disability covers 60% of pre-disability earnings up to $1,500 per week and long term disability covers 60% of monthly pre-disability earnings, up to $10,000 per month.

Retirement plans

Mighty Acorn offers a 401(k) featuring both traditional and Roth options. We also match up to 4% of salaries, vested immediately, for those that elect to participate.
