The non-profit, non-partisan Prison Policy Initiative challenges over-criminalization and mass incarceration through research, advocacy, and organizing. We show how the United States’ excessive and unequal use of punishment and institutional control harms individuals and undermines our communities and national well-being. We have built the most popular criminal justice reform website to date, and many of our publications have become staples of the movement.
We are known for collecting [previously inaccessible data](https://www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/pie2020.html) and presenting it in [new](https://www.prisonpolicy.org/global/2018.html) and [engaging ways](https://www.prisonpolicy.org/phones/state_of_phone_justice.html) that then spark real change on the ground. We produce powerful visuals and run a well-organized, fast, and easy-to-use website.
Behind the scenes, we’re growing, and this new position is key to our strategy. Before the pandemic, we were a staff of 7 in a small office in western Massachusetts, and by September we’ll be a staff of 10 working from three time zones. We’d like to seize this opportunity and create as many as 10 new positions in the near future, but we need to remove the bottleneck that is our existing technical expertise. To date, all of our technology work has been led by the Executive Director and a very part-time consultant. Now that we are growing, it’s time to turn this work over to a dedicated professional who can help us seize opportunities and prepare for the future.
