About Us
Here are some of the things we believe set CIP apart:
- Vision – We have a compelling and tangible vision for what we want the future of technology to look like, articulated in a variety of ways (e.g. WIRED article, our whitepaper, our democratic AI roadmap, Divya’s TED talk, etc).
- One core idea: the transformative tech trilemma, and our guiding philosophy that building the future requires not accepting zero-sum tradeoffs between technological progress, collective agency / democracy, and societal safety.
- Technically-informed work – Most work in the tech governance space is either narrowly technical or handwavey; we are able to do technically-informed work that still speaks to a broader social and economic project.
- Network — We’re connected to core people across “scenes” and disciplines, and are able to bridge spaces and make collaboration happen. Lots of people want to work with us and believe in us.
- Agility — We’re capable of moving quickly, and shipping imperfect MVPs that can catalyze change at opportune moments (vs. bringing complex products to scale, for example).
- Concrete ideas — We’ve made abstract ideas concrete through our partnerships and experiments, taking generically good things like ‘democratizing AI’ and putting them into practice. We hold ourselves accountable to concreteness and impact.
