The BC Children's Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) and the Women's Health Research Institute (WHRI) are collaborating to host a digital health research series.

On Thursday, June 26, between 12:00 pm -1:00 pm, PST join us for an exciting rapid fire panel discussion about - AI in Women's Health: Bridging Gaps or Reinforcing Bias?

 

Objectives:

  • Understand the roots and implications of the women’s health data gap, and how these disparities impact outcomes in clinical care and innovation.
  • Examine the risks of AI technologies widening inequities in women’s health due to biased data, misdiagnosis, and regulatory blind spots.
  • Explore strategies to embed inclusion and diversity considerations into the research, development, and deployment of AI in healthcare.
  • Discuss current regulatory challenges and the need for harmonized, gender-inclusive standards in healthcare AI.
  • Identify opportunities for leveraging AI to actively close the women’s health gap and advance equitable innovation.

 

Panelists:

Hadassah Drukarch

Hadassah brings over five years of GRC experience in the field of emerging technologies, complemented by a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Formerly the Director of Policy and Delivery at the Responsible AI Institute, she worked closely with industry leaders, researchers, and regulators to develop governance tools, certification programs, and regulatory guidance. In this role, she supported startups, large enterprises, and Fortune 500 companies in advancing their Responsible AI Maturity.

Hadassah’s doctoral research at Leiden University’s eLaw Center for Law and Digital Technologies explores the operationalization of transparency in the development of trustworthy AI, and her work has been published in leading journals such as the International Journal of Social RoboticsComputer Law & Security Review, Nature Machine Intelligence, Data & policy, and Data in Society.

 

Danika Kelly

Danika Kelly is a health and wellness professional and trained socio-cultural scholar in issues around female health and representation. For the past 14 years she’s worked globally focusing on health advancement and knowledge translation in developing economies. Danika has a strong history of leadership excellence in the social innovation space —winning awards and recognition from Telus and The Future of Good, DMZ Woman of the Year, FemTech Analytics, Femtech Focus, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs, and more. Danika acts as an advisor on sex and gender equity to the Commonwealth Businesswomen Network and the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs.

 

Lysel Brignoli (Moderator)

Lysel Brignoli is an expert in Real-World Evidence (RWE) and epidemiologic research, with over a decade of experience designing and leading studies that generate insights for healthcare decision-making.

Her work focuses on innovative study designs, patient registries, and the integration of patient perspectives in research. She has led international observational studies across various disease areas, including women’s health, dermatology, and rare diseases, and has extensive experience incorporating Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) into research. Lysel is also actively involved in publishing research in scientific congresses and peer-reviewed journals.

Committed to driving change, advancing health equity, and improving patient outcomes, she believes that real-world data and innovative methodologies are crucial to addressing disparities and improving outcomes.
