Description

Aim of activity: share research on public and staff attitudes towards AI, tech, and data,

Key themes:

  • Public and staff attitudes to tech, data, and AI
  • Attiudes across different demographics
  • Importance of creative and inclusive public engagement

Why it’s important: if new uses are to succeed, it is essential they have the support of the public. As seen with previous data controversies such as over the care.data or General Practice Data for Planning and Research schemes, a lack of public support can significantly constrain innovation and service transformation. As such, there is a growing need to understand public attitudes on this topic and engage people in a conversation about health technologies and data, and the future of care. The insights gathered can then help inform the effective development of technologies and data solutions.

What will the attendees learn:

  • How the public and NHS staff feel towards AI, tech, and data in health care
  • How these attitudes vary across different groups, including by gender, age, and socioeconomic group
  • Further insights include which technologies the public are more concerned about, which organisations they trust the most with their health data, and what kind of activities are people willing to engage in to support the development of technologies in health care

How will it improve their practice + how will it benefit them / patients?

Applying the insights from this research can support the responsible and safe implementation of technologies in health care, ensuring that the public / patients are at the centre of the decision making process. This can lead to improved confidence and trust worthiness among the public, and in turn, improved health outcomes.
