AI is becoming increasingly popular in the sustainable development sector, with many organisations implementing its use in their day to day work to improve efficiency, outputs and to support the core activities of the organisation. However, with so many concerns about AI, the ethics, the environmental impact, security and more, where do you begin to understand AI and its role in your organisation, if there is one?
We’ll be joined by AI4NGO who are bringing us a three-part series on AI, to help you incorporate a thoughtful approach to AI use: AI in Action - A Workshop Series for International Development Professionals.
In this second session, we’ll tackle the practical side of responsible use: spotting bias, protecting sensitive data, handling hallucinations, and starting to think about AI governance for your organisation.

Gabriel Wang (they/them)
Gabriel Wang is an AI Solutions Architect and data science professional based in Barcelona. They combine technical expertise in artificial intelligence with a reflective approach influenced by Zen Buddhism.
They position themselves as a bridge between advancing technology and the humanitarian and social impact sectors, promoting the responsible and meaningful use of AI for global development challenges. They work in the field of applied AI for social impact supporting NGOs in understanding, adopting, and responsibly using artificial intelligence.
Grace Shockman
Grace Shockman is an educator and pedagogical advisor working at the intersection of peacebuilding, education, and ethical technology. Based in Barcelona, she teaches at Chestnut Tree Ecological School, where she teaches courses on diplomacy, social sciences, and emotional intelligence.
Grace holds a Master’s degree in Peace, Trauma, and Religion from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, along with postgraduate qualifications in educational centre management from the University of Barcelona and collaborates with AI4NGO as a moderator and development assistant, contributing to the promotion of responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence within the nonprofit sector.
