ARIC Brown Bag Session: Ethics and Governance of Quantum Technology

We will explore how quantum technologies (computing, communication, sensing) raise new ethical challenges and societal risks alongside opportunities at the example of UNESCO's science ethics commission's 2025 report on the ethics of quantum computing. We will present different governance approaches, from international coordination and standard-setting to national regulation and industry self-regulation, highlighting their strengths and limitations. Finally, we will address unresolved problems, including questions of global equity and intergenerational responsibility.
