Description

Black Girls CODE In-Person Summer Camp New York City for Ages 12-17!

About this event

Overview

Our two week camp provides hands-on, project-based instruction, where campers ages 12-17 engage in tech instruction. The camp meets from 9AM-4PM with lunch, breaks, community building, field trips and of course coding! Our camps offer a space where girls can learn computer science and coding principles in the company of other girls, with mentorship from women they can see themselves becoming.

Join Black Girls Code for a two-week summer camp on the theme of Black Art. You’ll get to know artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and 12-year-old NFT creator Nyla Hayes as you code designs and functions in the JavaScript library p5.js.

The Vision

Technology shapes everyone’s lives all over the world and will only continue to expand, therefore, everyone should have an opportunity to shape and create it. We want to make sure that Black girls and girls of color are not only included in this tech revolution but are prepared to take on leadership roles within this field and/or start their own STEM organizations for social good.

Covid-19 Protocols

Black Girls CODE is excited to return to limited in-person events. As an organization, we continue to uphold COVID safety standards as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and local guidance. As standards change and updates are made available, we will continue to inform and update our camper families with the most accurate information. If we postpone an in-person camp location due to Covid, we will shift to a virtual model with the same dates. The following protocols define our approach to encouraging and maintaining a safe learning environment.

  • All participants must provide proof of vaccination.
  • Equipment and touch points will be wiped down on a regular basis throughout the day.
  • All supplies and equipment will be provided for use by individual campers.
  • All meals and snacks will be provided for each camper. There will be no sharing of food.
  • Families are required to complete a symptom checker form daily and submit it by 7:30AM. Campers/their family showing symptoms will not be able to attend.
  • Masks are mandatory in buildings and in outdoor spaces when physical distancing is difficult.
  • Campers will be divided into small learning pods. Each pod will have a set group of adults (tech instructor, tech assistant, classroom assistant and junior camp counselor) who support camper learning.
  • Physical distancing will be maintained for all activities.

Refund Policy:

Before May 25, 2021, the registration fee (minus transaction fee) is fully refundable.

After June 1, 2021, if you choose to withdraw your camper from a session, there will be no refund or credit.

We do not offer refunds for cancellations after the above dates and/or no-shows for camp. There are no other credits or “make- up days” for missed days, no exceptions. Refunds may take four weeks for processing.

If we postpone an in-person camp location due to Covid, we will shift to a virtual model with the same dates.
