Description

Join us for our January spotlight gathering featuring an interactive presentation by Ethical Culture Leader Curt Collier. Neuroscientists consistently point out that human beings are inherently “tribal.” Each of us belongs to groups that shape our identity, provide a sense of belonging, and offer mutual care and protection. Yet as the United States has become increasingly diverse, these same tribal instincts can sometimes limit our empathy for those outside our familiar circles. While this dynamic is cause for concern, emerging research suggests that our tendency toward tribalism can be redirected toward broader, prosocial ends. What drives our tribal instincts? How do they influence our behavior in social environments? And most importantly, how can we harness these tendencies not only to support our own groups, but to extend genuine care and solidarity to others?

Join us! And stay for our potluck lunch starting at 12:30. Bring something to share if you like.
