Challenges of introducing new technologies in early years design education

Ingri Strand will discuss challenges in introducing new technologies in early years design education. What happens when new technologies enter the workshop? Which barriers exist, and how should new technology be integrated into early years design education?

This presentation presents challenges in choosing technologies and the hindrances to introducing new technologies into schools. The question of why new technologies should or should not be used in early years design education is discussed through the examples of digital drawing or painting, 3D printers, and AI text-to-image generation.

A key point from the presentation is that the choice of technology should be grounded in educational aims, tailored to the unique needs of early years design education. The use of new technology and digital tools should also be linked to creative and open-ended projects, while fostering students’ critical reflection on issues such as sustainability and copyright."
