Data Challenges in Global Health: 20 years of Lessons Learned

Description

Details

In the arena of global health, insufficient funding is a major challenge for any discipline and one of the primary driver’s of successful programs is the evidence or data that any expenditure has had impact. Although high income countries often have complex systems for collecting data and showing impact in multiple ways, such systems are often lacking in low- and middle-income countries or, moreover, access to data is limited due to a variety of barriers (real or artificial). Systems to collect the data are only one small piece of the challenge whereas the major challenge is data analysis, real-time analytics, continuous improvement, and increased quality and value through these processes. Through more than 20 years of experience across infectious disease and oncology, Dr. Milner will discuss the current challenges today with data generation, data collection, data management, and data analysis in global health settings with diagnostic data in pathology as an example case study.

About the Speaker: Dr. Dan Milner is the Chief Medical Officer of the American Society for Clinical pathology and works with more than 80 collaborative organizations around the world to lead ASCP’s efforts in global health with a mission of 100% access for all patients, everywhere.
