Digital Politics: Power and Governance in Cyberspace

Description

Speaker: Dr. Xuechen Chen, Assistant Professor in Politics and International Relations

Date: Monday, 9th September, 6:00pm

16th September, 2:30pm

Over the past decade, the concepts of digital politics and digital governance have attracted considerable attention both within academic literature and the policy community, due to the profound implications of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for global politics.

Digital technologies have not only transformed political behaviours at national, regional and global levels, but also challenged our conventional understanding of power and governance in international politics.

To understand this radically transformed political world in the digital age, we will discuss the following questions: How have digital technologies impacted the distribution of power in international politics? How can we reimagine and reconceptualise sovereignty, territory and governance in cyberspace? And what kind of role can international and regional organisations play in digital governance?

This session will also include an introduction to postgraduate study at Northeastern University London, an overview of the MSc Digital Politics and Sustainable Development programme, and live Q&A with the panel.
