Description

Now in its 10th year, the MIT Energy & Climate Hack brings opportunities for learning, problem solving, and networking to the forefront as teams develop rapid, innovative solutions to the problems in energy and climate that our society faces today.

With challenges written for a myriad of fields and with our participants specializing across so many different disciplines, there is great opportunity for students and sponsors alike to apply their skills and learn something new.

In brief, participants will be presented with challenges from companies addressing pressing needs related to energy and the climate, and break out into teams. Those teams will then have two days to hack the challenge they’ve been assigned and present their solution to company representatives, fellow hackers, and judges. The presentations will be in the form of a short PowerPoint presentation. The judges will rank solutions and presentations and winning teams will receive prizes in various categories.

Hackathon Focus Areas

Renewable Energy

Powering the Future with Renewable Energy

Imagine a city where every light, every vehicle, and every home is powered by clean, renewable energy. From the vast potential of solar and wind to the innovative use of green hydrogen, renewable energy is at the heart of a sustainable future. In this hackathon, we’ll explore groundbreaking solutions that harness the power of nature to fuel our cities, reduce carbon footprints, and drive a global transition to clean energy.

Transportation & Mobility

Revolutionizing Urban Mobility for a Cleaner Tomorrow

What if your daily commute was not only fast and efficient but also completely emissions-free? From electric vehicles and high-speed trains to flying taxis and bike-sharing networks, the future of urban mobility is green, clean, and incredibly exciting. Join us as we reimagine transportation, creating smart, sustainable systems that reduce congestion, improve air quality, and make our cities more livable.

Circularity

Designing a Circular Future with Sustainable Materials

We can live a life with no waste, where every product is designed with a second life in mind, and materials are continuously reused in new and innovative ways. This hackathon invites you to rethink our relationship with materials, driving innovation in recycling, upcycling, and sustainable design to create a truly circular economy.
