Description

PauseAI is a global, nonviolent social movement dedicated to safe & ethical AI development. We are pushing aggressively for government action to slow down the development race and refocus on safety. To accomplish this audacious goal, we need your help!

This is our PauseAI action meeting for the city of Pittsburgh: at this meeting, you'll meet other members concerned about AI safety, take concrete action to notify your government officials about the stakes, and use your skills to contribute to PauseAI's projects.

Why Pause AI?

Current AI models have already proven they can regurgitate copyrighted workautonomously reproduce, lie about being able to autonomously reproduce, create nerve gas, empower terrorists, collude to fix prices, encourage children to commit suicide, deliver bombs, hire dark web hitmen, de-anonymize passersby, replace most human employment and unpredictably launch nuclear weapons. And this is the least capable it will ever be.

Meanwhile, companies and governments are funding AI as fast as they can get approval, with US companies alone committing to spend an incomprehensible $560 billion (about the cost to build the entire Interstate Highway system) during just January 2025. While many AI leaders acknowledge the risks, nobody is willing to put money or actions behind those words to make the technology safer.

We are not prepared for the consequences.
