Public markets showed a considerable decline in stock price valuations across the spectrum of commerce infrastructure as well retail. D2C wunderkind Peloton lost nearly 90% of its value since it went public in late 2020, when Covid valuations reached a first peak. And Shopify’s share price is down by over 70% compared to a year ago. But is the picture really that gloomy for the entire sector? Taking a longer-term perspective, Shopify’s share price increased by over 230% since 2017.
So is all well, then? And what about M&A transactions? How have valuations developed there over the recent turbulent months?
