Description

Join NAMI-NYC for a virtual conversation with mental health experts, advocates, and community leaders on how technology and social media impact youth and how to take action to improve and protect their well-being.

Last summer, New York became the first state in the nation to regulate social media algorithms with the passage of the Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act. NYS has also advanced key policies, including the new Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy in schools, to address the growing youth mental health crisis.

Featuring guest speaker Dr. Melissa DuPont-Reyes of Columbia University, Sarah Domoff from the University at Albany, and Tommy Marzella, VP of Social Platform Development & Safety at The Trevor Project, with more to come.

We’ll discuss:

  • The state of youth mental health in New York City
  • The impact of technology on mindfulness, bullying, attention span, and media literacy
  • The SAFE for Kids Act, NY’s new cell phone policy in schools, and other policy solutions
