In his upcoming Tech Talk, “High-Performance Computing in the Age of AI,” Carlos will explore the crucial role that high-performance computing plays in addressing contemporary challenges, demonstrating its intersection with artificial intelligence and its impact on our approach to solving global issues.
Carlos del-Castillo-Negrete embarked on his academic journey at Yale University, where he pursued a double major in computer science and physics. His early passion for blending theoretical knowledge with practical applications led him to a role at 1010data in New York City. There, he developed software solutions that managed large-scale data sets, enabling real-time analytics for business applications.
Following his tenure at 1010data, Carlos advanced to doctoral studies at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at the University of Texas, Austin. Under the guidance of Professor Clint Dawson, he delved into computational sciences with a focus on high-performance computing (HPC) applications for hurricane storm surge modeling.
Carlos is a member of the High-Performance Computing team at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), where he works on various computational clusters, including Frontera, the nation’s fastest academic supercomputer. His role involves deploying and maintaining various computational science simulation software, optimizing performance at scale, and focusing on Machine Learning workflows on heterogeneous computing platforms. His commitment to enhancing the utility and accessibility of high-performance computing systems is evident through his involvement in projects that bridge the gap between advanced computing technologies and real-world applications.
