This course is a basic introduction to using data in local economic growth, aimed at those who have limited experience in data analysis, visualisation and insights.
Using several local authorities as examples in both taught sections and breakout activities, we’ll show how to better understand a specific area’s performance on GVA, productivity and income.
Learn more about the datasets available, which to use, and what can be learnt from them about the performance of a local economy.
Please note: at this time, people in the private or third-sector are not eligible to attend. We may open up this course more widely at a later date.
We recommend you reflect on your knowledge and experience using and presenting data. For example:
When do you look at the current position and when is change over time better?
Why may you use data on a per capita basis?
How do you choose the right comparators?
Selecting data – a 7 minute video
Comparison to other areas - an 8 minute video
