Meet the Speakers
Paola Rios Schaaf
Director of Product at Ellevation
Paola Ríos Schaaf was born in Lima and came to the US to attend Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. Started her career in publishing as an Editor, and shortly after transitioned to a role in technology development.
For over 15 years, she developed online learning programs for the study of foreign languages; building online courses for students, a teaching platform for instructors, and managed the company’s eCommerce site. In 2019, she changed career tracks, landing a role at retail giant, Wayfair where she led a team of platform product managers, building services for Storefront and enabling Merchandising teams to effectively create delightful shopping experiences. Paola is now back in edTech. As the Director of Product at Ellevation, she is building the platform that enables schools and districts to support multilingual learner programs.
Since 2006, Paola volunteers at the Museum of Fine Arts. She is an Access Guide supporting inclusive experiences for visitors with disabilities. She is also an acting leader of the Latinas in Tech Boston Chapter, where she works on elevating Latinx representation and initiatives for women supporting women in the technology industry. Paola is a member of the Women in Product community; she led a table discussion at this year’s conference, presented at #WIP21 and is featured in Episode #9 of their podcast series.
Lidia De La Cruz
Software Engineer at Thoughtworks | Creator of Poderosa Coding
Lidia is a first gen, AfroLatina and Bronx with 6 years of experience in school operations. She pivoted into tech Dec 2019, by completing a coding bootcamp, during her journey she could not find an Afrolatina who pivoted into tech, so she decided to document her journey for other women who would embark on the same journey as she did.
Lidia uses her voice to inspire and motivate women who are aspiring to pivot into tech. Lidia pays it forward by mentoring, sharing tips and resources to lift up women who like her want to change careers into tech. Lidia has built a brand @poderosacoding on all social media platforms, poderosa is a common term used in Spanish to describe a powerful women.
Carlos Duran
Partnerships Representative at Klaviyo
Carlos Duran went to school at Boston College, in where he majored in Economics and Communications. He is originally from Panama, but moved to Boston in 2017. Carlos works at Klaviyo in the partnership team, additionally he is a mixed media artist focusing on paint and photography.

Sully discovered her love for Software Engineering while working part-time at a startup. Since then, she has been dedicated to mastering the field and staying up-to-date on the latest advancements in technology. Lately, she has been focusing on learning cloud computing and Machine Learning, two areas where she sees tremendous potential for innovation and progress.
But Sully is not just a skilled engineer—she is also a passionate community builder. She believes that by working together and supporting one another, we can achieve greatness and make a real difference in the world. Beyond her work, Sully loves sustainable fashion and travel and is constantly seeking new experiences and connections with like-minded individuals.
