About this event

Every day, people across Canada work to help newcomers find reliable information, navigate services, and feel at home. At a time when capacity is more constrained than ever, using evidence to inform decision-making can help us plan confidently and effectively.

Now in its fifth year, the MTM Newcomers Survey offers a clear, practical view of how newcomers use media and technology. These insights are essential for organizations like you, aiming to better serve and connect with newcomers, so the choices you make in programs, communications, funding, and policy are grounded in data and shaped by lived experience.

What you’ll learn in this 60-minute session

We’ll highlight early findings from the 2025 survey and explore how to apply them in real settings, in ways that are practical and won’t add to your workload. We’ll look at communication patterns and gaps that affect outreach, program design, funding applications, and community partnerships. Details to come once we’re done analysing the data – check back in early October!

Who should attend

  • Settlement service providers (SPOs)
  • Funders and philanthropy partners
  • Public servants (federal, provincial, municipal)
  • University researchers and students
  • Refugee sponsors and civic welcome networks

If you’re designing programs, planning outreach, writing grants, evaluating impact, or shaping policy, pairing data with your experience can help you work more confidently and equitably. In this session, we’ll help you link what you know from supporting newcomer communities to the insights from MTM’s expansive data on newcomer media and technology use.

About the MTM 2025 Survey

MTM Newcomers is Canada’s first and longest-running annual survey dedicated to newcomer media and tech habits. It builds on more than two decades of insight from MTM 18+, and helps service providers, funders, policymakers, researchers, communities and sponsors understand how newcomers get information, stay connected, and access services. These insights support more effective programs, smarter resource allocation, and policies that reflect the specific needs and strengths of diverse newcomer communities: ultimately contributing to successful integration.
