This training session introduces archivists and other cultural heritage professionals to the fundamentals of working with digital data.
As collections, records, and institutional workflows become increasingly digital, data literacy has become an essential professional skill across the GLAM sector. The session explores both the everyday data that underpins organisational activities and the born-digital materials that are increasingly entering archival and cultural heritage collections. The session introduces key approaches to working with data in archival and cultural heritage contexts, exploring how born-digital records, file organisation, version control, data wrangling, metadata, standards, and documentation support the effective management, preservation, access, and reuse of data throughout its lifecycle. Participants will be encouraged to view data management not simply as a technical task, but as a critical component of responsible and sustainable collection care.
