The Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) oversees all Citywide technology, privacy, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and telecommunications to ensure the security of, and enhance, City operations and service delivery to New York City's residents, businesses, employees, and visitors. The Senior Enterprise Storage Engineer will report to the Infrastructure division and will be an integral lead for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of Enterprise Storage as an enterprise-level service offering for New York City agencies.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design, Install, configure, and support Enterprise Storage Infrastructure and associated technology including SAN Arrays, SAN Switches, NAS Filers, Object Storage, and Hyperconverged Infrastructure and configuration of required Hosting Technologies;
- In depth knowledge of networking;
- Hands-on technical resource for virtualization solutions for new and existing applications;
- Implement best practices for SAN and backup methodologies for Enterprise Storage;
- Hands-on technical resource for VSAN related configuration creation and tuning from lifecycle management
- Support ECS S3 service-related troubleshooting and maintenance
- Perform feasibility analysis of new projects;
- Evaluate requirements and recommend technical and architectural solutions for current and future Enterprise Storage Solutions;
- Automation of daily tasks provisioning, administrative and engineering tasks using scripting and automation tools;
- Scripting solutions to enable automation and streamlined, optimized engineering and operations tasks;
- Performance monitoring, optimization, and remediation for Enterprise Storage infrastructure;
- Perform provisioning activities for all new builds and efforts;
- Ensure that deliverables are met and documented;
- Work closely with all OTI teams to ensure clear and timely communications;
- Provide risk assessments and change controls to meet agency standards;
- Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area, and four years of satisfactory fulltime experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, or administrative duties in a voice and/or data telecommunications or closely related electronics planning, management, and/or service organization, one year of which must have been in a highly specialized capacity and 18 months must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity or in the supervision of staff performing work in the voice and/or data telecommunications field; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent, scientific, technical, electronic or related area and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of the specialized experience as described in "1" above and must possess the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
The preferred candidate should possess the following: - A background deploying Enterprise Storage Solutions including SAN, NAS, Object, and Hyperconverged in a complex enterprise environment, including integration with preexisting infrastructure, SaaS, PaaS or hybrid solutions Strong knowledge of containers and cloud technologies, as well as familiarity with multi tenancy strategies - Strong real-world experience building, deploying and operating Enterprise Storage solutions in on-prem and in private, hybrid and public cloud environments - Strong real world experience with VSAN implementation and support afterwards - Strong real-world experience building, deploying and operating Enterprise Compute, Hosting and Operating Systems solutions in on-prem and in private, hybrid and public cloud environments - Expert knowledge to plan, manage, and execute Storage Migrations of data sets between all Enterprise Storage Solutions - Expert knowledge of Operating System and Hosting Environments that connect to all Enterprise Storage Solutions including Windows, UNIX/Linux, and ESX/Vmware - Experience managing End-to-End infrastructure and IT management for Enterprise Storage, Hosting and Operating Systems, Cloud applications, Platform infrastructure, and Data Protection - Strong experience performing Data and Infrastructure migrations including Applications, Operating System, Host, Network, and Storage based migrations - Senior level experience with EMC Powermax, EMC Isilon, EMC ECS (Object Storage), Netapp ONTAP, Brocade SAN Switches - Senior level experience with Linux, UNIX, Windows, ESX/Vmware operating system computer environments - Strong automation and DevOps skills with tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, - Strong skills and experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, UNIX shell, Python, Perl, etc especially in the context of automation and migrations - Works well under pressure and will have the ability to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion - Hands-on experience in handling SDDC environments - Project management skills to ensure deliverables are met and documented - Strong communication and presentation skills for all levels, including executives - Ability to handle multiple priorities and interruptions with minimal impact on productivity.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
