Job Description:
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency that focuses on issues critical to the region’s success, including growth and development, transportation, water resources, services for older adults and workforce solutions. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region’s collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. This is done through professional planning initiatives, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.
Performance Analysis and Monitoring Section (PAMS) is a core team of the transportation department of ARC. We do analyze from regional data to link level data of various data including transportation, demographic, socio-economic, environment and so on. With the analysis, we provide the best tools and solutions to solve issues in the metro Atlanta region. Also, we develop, improve, and integrate current models and tools to enhance the efficiency and performance of them.
The PAMS intern will be responsible for developing models and tools with programming languages such as Python, R, Java, and others.
This temporary position is not eligible for benefits, working up to 29 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assists in the development of models and analytical tools using programming languages such Python, R, and Java;
- Works with existing models, including VisionEval and TMIP-EMAT, to refine their functionality and troubleshoot issues;
- Supports the ongoing development of the bike network model by providing programming, data analysis, and testing support;
- Gathers, cleans, and analyzes data from various sources to inform model development and validation;
- Documents model features, code changes, and analysis results. Prepares summaries and reports to communicate findings to team members;
- Works closely with team members in transportation data analysis, climate change tools, and EV planning projects to align model outputs with project goals;
- Performs other duties as assigned to support agency goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Pursing an undergraduate/graduate degree in urban or regional planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Programming experience, particularly with Python and R; familiarity with Java and other relevant languages is a plus.
- Proficiency in data cleaning, processing, and statistical analysis; experience with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and R’s data analysis packages is beneficial.

- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently to manage tasks and meet project deadlines;
- Desire to learn and strong problem-solving skills;
- Proven analytical ability and attention to detail;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
