Data & Analytics leverages business intelligence gained through advanced data analytics in order to maximize AARP's marketing and communications results. This includes using data science, data engineering, predictive modeling, and market analytics to guide data driven decision making.

 

As a Data Engineering Intern on the Enterprise Data team, you will contribute to optimizing how our organization connects, processes, and utilizes marketing analytics data. This role provides hands-on experience in data engineering and management, working alongside experienced professionals to solve real-world data challenges. The Enterprise Data team builds and maintains a centralized data platform that integrates audience, marketing, and behavioral data, supporting analytics and decision-making across the organization. You’ll gain exposure to cutting-edge data engineering, analytics, and AI tools while contributing to meaningful projects that improve data accessibility and performance. This paid internship is expected to begin in May or June 2025 and conclude in August, with the possibility of extending additional semesters.


Responsibilities

Documentation & Assessment

  • Document processes and monitor pipeline performance across platforms
  • Create best practice guidelines for Databricks users to reduce storage costs

Databricks Optimization

  • Audit Databricks usage to compile reports for cost analysis and storage optimization
  • Develop a recommendation model to identify optimal cluster configurations within Databricks
  • Investigate opportunities to leverage AI tools to optimize workflows and enhance data quality

Collaboration

  • Participate in strategic planning within the data analytics group
  • Collaborate with Databricks users in various teams to better understand user needs
  • Communicate key findings and recommendations to leadership as well as Databricks users


Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data engineering, data science, information systems, or a related field
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts, ETL processes, and cloud platforms (AWS experience is a plus)
  • Programming experience with Python, SQL, or other scripting languages
  • Interest in AI and automation technologies, with a willingness to research and experiment

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with analytic tools like Funnel.io, Tableau, Databricks, or similar platforms
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in documenting technical processes
  • A proactive and collaborative attitude, with an ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.

 

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
