Internet Archive is seeking a Senior Product Manager for its Archiving & Data Services team. Internet Archive (IA) is a non-profit digital library, top 200 website at archive.org, and an archive of over 99 petabytes of digital information running in many self-owned and operated data centers. Internet Archive also provides mission-aligned services to thousands of organizations worldwide, working collaboratively to advance our goal of “Universal Access to All Knowledge.” 

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to help grow and expand our suite of services while working in concert with a global set of partner institutions to provide web, data, access, research, and preservation services to research, memory, and social good organizations. This high-profile role works directly with the national and international community to provide products supporting their work on archiving, web services, knowledge and learning, and open scholarship. The Archiving & Data Services group includes both SaaS products as well as custom web and data services, community programs, and strategic initiatives supporting research and perpetual access to information. The role will lead product management of new and existing services and work closely with engineering, program, and operations staff on product development and collaborative initiatives with our partners. Other responsibilities include working with department staff on technical and strategic planning, partnership and business development, and making data-driven decisions for continuous growth and improvement of our services. Reporting to the department Director, the Senior Product Manager will help build values-aligned products for a global coalition of institutions providing open access to digital information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the product development of early-stage and mature digital products for archiving, scholarly, web, and data services for an international community of libraries, cultural heritage, government, educational, open knowledge, and social good organizations.

  • Work with a distributed team of other managers and staff supporting and building digital products, including directly contributing to design, testing, development, releases, support, user onboarding, and outreach and communications.

  • Potentially supervise staff supporting current products and assist and work closely with multiple teams on product growth, engineering, finances, and operations.

  • Conduct business analysis, discovery, and release plans and work directly with user communities to ensure the value, efficacy, and impact of our products.

  • Assist in department-level strategic planning, business development, grants management, and partnership building.

  • Represent Internet Archive and our services in the affiliated professional communities, including travel, meetings, presentations, and outreach.

Qualification and Skills:

  • At least 3-5 years of demonstrated product or program management experience working directly on technology services for institutional users.

  • Proven experience working with and potentially supervising remote-first teams, including working directly with engineering and product staff at all levels of seniority.

  • Experience in creating roadmaps, project timelines, and growth strategies, and ensuring the accomplishment of both internally and externally mandated deliverables.

  • Experience with open-source technology product/project management and knowledge of digital libraries/archives, scholarly communications, data management, and open knowledge practices is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a deadline-driven environment while successfully juggling many projects simultaneously.

  • Must be a creative, entrepreneurial, self-starter able to work independently in a dynamic, fast-moving, production-oriented culture that includes a globally-distributed remote team.

  • Candidates must have strong written and oral communication skills, comfort with presenting, and experience working directly with user communities and stakeholders.

  • The role requires some travel to national and international events and meetings.

  • Flexibility, self-reliance, a sense of humor, and being energized by ambiguity and problem-solving are valuable qualities.

Job Details:

This is a remote-first position working in a distributed team. Candidates will need to have significant working hour overlap with Pacific Time Zone based colleagues. Compensation and title will be commensurate with experience and candidates work location and is open to both Product Manager and Senior Product manager level candidates of  varying seniority. The general salary range is $90,000 to $140,000, variable according to a candidate’s level of experience and work location. Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Resident with authorization to work. References must be made available upon request.
