Platform Staff Engineer

- Technical Leadership: You’re a key contributor in defining and driving the vision for platform engineering, shaping best practices and long-term strategy.
- Infrastructure Architecture: Design and enhance cloud-based environments with an emphasis on automation, reliability, and scalability.
- Developer Experience: Be hands-on, building and refining tools that improve software delivery, deployment efficiency, and observability.
- Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with engineering teams to understand needs, guide implementation, troubleshoot complex challenges, and mentor junior engineers.
- Security & Compliance: Establish secure development practices, infrastructure policies, and monitoring strategies.
- Innovation: Evaluate emerging technologies, propose new approaches, and drive adoption of best-in-class solutions.
- Ensure Technical Excellence: Oversee the reliability, security, extensibility, and accessibility of our systems that process thousands of solar sites across the country.

Experience You’ll Need
- 8+ years of experience focused on SRE principles and operational excellence methodologies.
- Extensive experience in cloud platforms (e.g. AWS) and modern DevOps practices.
- Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform) and automation frameworks.
- Proficiency in Kubernetes, containers, and orchestration technologies.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD workflows (e.g. BitBucket Pipelines, Flux CD) and deployment strategies.
- Experience leading architectural discussions and making high-impact technical decisions.
- Experience evaluating trade-offs having a strong, data-driven opinion on what to prioritize.
- Solid understanding of security best practices, networking, and cloud governance.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and inspire teams.
Experience That’s a Plus
- You’ve made significant contributions to improving engineering practices and processes in a growing company and have evolved those practices and processes over a company’s different stages of growth.
- All of our software is written in Kotlin, Java, Python, and TypeScript. We run it all in Kubernetes on AWS and integrate and deploy with Bitbucket and Flux CD. We observe our systems using Prometheus, Grafana, and Sentry. Experience with any of these specific technologies will help when onboarding, but we only require experience with similar technologies!
- Experience with service mesh architectures and API gateways.
- Familiarity with authentication platforms, roles, and access tokens.

Total Compensation
Full base salary range $127,875 - $210,375
- Midpoint: $175,000
