How You’ll Add-Value 

USGBC’s Project Management Office (PMO) is going through an expansion phase and is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to be a champion of the organization’s business analysis framework to foster adoption and drive operational excellence in project management.  This role will have two primary customers: the internal business partners that are aligned under 4 departments with multiple teams and the Technology Team. The Senior Business Analyst will be the catalyst for alignment in business partner needs to technology solution efforts.   

 

Under limited supervision, the Senior Business Analyst is primarily responsible in working closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, gathering, and analyzing data, and providing insights that drive strategic decisions. Using organizational datasets be able to aggregate, analyze, and report actionable insights to cross functional departments in support of various business lines. The Senior Business Analyst is expected to design and implement a business analysis framework that enhances operational efficiency, manage project timelines, and ensure that business objectives are met. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential, as the role requires identifying and addressing complex business challenges with the use of organizational data. 

 

The Senior Business Analyst will be a partner to the Technology team. They will be responsible for identifying business partner’s technical needs, aligning them to the organization enterprise architecture, and supporting the facilitation of effective decision-making. There will be frequent engagement with the Technology Team Leads and the CIO. Thus, this role requires that a person must have the ability to drive conversations and gain clarity and commitment from all stakeholders in challenging environments and large organizations, as well as have excellent organizational and communication skills. 

In collaboration with Project Managers, the Senior Business Analyst will help support the execution of projects within the organization.  While there is a heavy focus on product driven projects and programs, there will be efforts related to internal operational efficiencies, internal strategic projects, and change management efforts. 

 

Reporting directly to the Director of Project Management, this position is responsible for providing integral support in mission requirements determination, conceptualization, design, development, testing, verification and validation, documentation, and implementation of technical integration efforts and interoperability products & services, while driving continuous process improvements and operational efficiencies.   

 

This position offers the flexibility to be remote, based within the United States. If located in the Washington DC area, one (1) day on-site is required. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Business Analysis Governance 

  • Define and create a standardized framework for business requirements gathering
  • Works closely with the business partners and Technology team to provide guidance and analysis experience, while incorporating the client's baseline requirements and processes into scalable design specifications that satisfies business requirements and needs
  • Drive the definition and development of business requirements and documentation of the requirements in detailed specifications from which products, processes, or services will be developed and/or procured, and from which hardware will be developed and/or procured
  • Supports formulation, validation, documentation, and definition of user requirements or stories, system use cases, business process workflows, enterprise architectures, system specifications and design based on user needs, research, and fact-finding
  • Supports stakeholder engagement sessions to elicit user needs, business architectures, processes, and gaps. Works with stakeholders to understand, characterize, model, analyze, and validate current and future business processes, information flows, organizational relationships, and/or operational resources
  • Applies standard research methodologies to gather, process, document, and analyze data. Uses relevant database software to effectively organize and present data and generate reports
  • Ability to works independently and help mentor others on the process of business requirements gathering
  • Collaborate with the Data team to support the organization’s Enterprise Data Architecture framework
  • Works with Technology team to provide guidance on development issues. Ensures user needs are accurately represented to system designers and developers
  • In alignment with the testing framework, supports development of independent validation and verification plans and scenarios, following industry standards and system requirements
  •  Drafts reports, briefings, or other project deliverables as needed. Set and manage stakeholder expectations, both internally and externally

 

Process Mapping and Analysis 

  • Design and Documentation: Develop detailed process maps to visualize existing business processes, identify inefficiencies, and propose optimized workflows.
  • Gap Analysis: Conduct analysis to identify gaps between current and desired states of processes and recommend strategies for improvement.
  • Standardization: Ensure consistency and standardization in process maps across various departments and functions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update process maps to reflect changing business needs and ensure alignment with strategic goals.

  

Strategic Alignment 

  • Ensure project objectives are aligned with company goals and are understood by all stakeholders.
  • Ensure project  and its respective stakeholders represent the organization’s global presence.
  • Ensure that all project deliverables meet the USGBC quality standards.

  

Process Improvement 

  • Be a change maker for project management governance within the organization.
  • Advocate for the  PMO vision, strategy, annual goals, and success factors to the USGBC organization.
  • Encourage innovation and diverse perspective throughout the project life cycle.
  • Be aware of industry best practices, techniques, and standards, and encourage PMO utilization of them to foster effective project execution.
  • Develops, implements, and promotes policies and standard operating procedures for business analysis.
  • Improves the flow of information through the organization by using modeling, testing and data models.
  • Support the analysis and revision of organizational business processes and procedures on a regular cadence to ensure relevancy and operational effectiveness as necessary.

 

Must-Have Qualifications 

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience working in business analysis with at least five (5) years specifically in data analytics
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data modeling, statistical analysis, and data visualization
  • At least seven (7) + years of experience supporting information technology teams (IT) projects and familiarity with software development practices (Waterfall, Hybrid and Agile)
  • Expert-Level Excel skillset Required
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools and technologies such as Power BI, SQL, Tableau, or other relevant software
  • In-depth understanding of business processes and the ability to translate business needs into data-driven solutions
  • Experience in Process Mapping: Demonstrated experience in process mapping and analysis, with the ability to create clear and comprehensive process diagrams. Experience using tools such as Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or similar software to design detailed process maps.
  • Change Management: Understanding of change management principles to facilitate the adoption of new processes and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Experience managing or supporting projects, including project planning, resource management, and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 
Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, systems engineering, business management or related field, or equivalent work experience 
  • Active professional certification related to business analysis in the following are preferred:
    • IIBA Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA)
    • IIBA Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)
    • IIBA Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA)
    • PMI Professional in Business Analytics (PMI-PBA)
    • Business Analysis Certification (BAC)
