Data Engineer

The Data Engineer works within the Data Engineering department and is responsible for building and maintaining the data infrastructure of Everytown. The core responsibility of this role is maintaining and managing the many day-to-day tools and processes used to organize, and report on the work done at Everytown. This includes being a partner for stakeholders inside the organization, making recommendations, implementing solutions and producing documentation. The candidate should be aligned with Everytown’s values and mission. This is a full-time, temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain existing systems
- Perform peer code review and quality assurance as part of a team
- Construct and maintain cross channel data synchronization using APIs or pipelines
- Maintain Data Standards and Taxonomy across systems
- Maintain scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration solutions to support data collection, storage, reporting, predictive analytics, and targeting
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues
- Maintain best practices in code and documentation
- Communicate departmental needs with vendors and consultants
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering and analytics through research and professional development
Requirements:
- 1-3+ years in SQL
- 1-3+ years in software development languages, Python
- Experience in a data and analytics environment
- Familiarity with R, Javascript, or other scripting languages
- Discover and troubleshoot arising issues
- Develop and maintain pipelines to perform ETL
- Use of dbt to build, test, and document data transformations in a modular and version-controlled way
- Working with version control systems such as Git
- Experience using APIs to construct and maintain data synchronizations
- Ability to manage several tasks or projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively, especially technical ideas to non-technical people, work well under pressure, be detail oriented and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail, including producing technical documentation
