NATURE OF WORK

The City of Sunrise offers internships in the areas of administration, finance, urban planning, emergency management, engineering, information technology and special projects throughout the City. This is varied semi-professional work which may include, but not limited to, research, technical/financial analysis, special projects, preparation of written communications, critical review of documents and agreements, citizen engagement, interdepartmental coordination, project management, involvement in a wide range of municipal management and community development issues, and assisting in administrative/office management.

Internship: 3-12 months (to be determined by dept.)
Hours: Up to 26 hours per week
Paid Internship: $15 per hour or "for credit" Internships

 

Examples of Duties


INTERN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary duty of the IT Intern will be to provide technical and/or administrative assistance to the City's Information Technology department. Intern will perform various clerical and tech support assignments including but not limited to covering help-desk, entering work order tickets, wiping hard drives, imaging new machines and entering knowledge base articles.   
 

Requirements


EDUCATION
 

  • Must be currently enrolled on a full or part time basis at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's program, majoring in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field; or a recent graduate from an accredited college/university possessing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the fields of study outlined.   
  • PROOF OF CURRENT ENROLLMENT OR GRADUATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION. (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.) 
 LEARNING OUTCOMES 
  • Incumbent gains hands on experience in a professional IT environment. Develops an understanding of tech support troubleshooting techniques. Incumbent will be exposed to multiple aspects of information systems, programming, hardware and software installation and ERP implementation.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must obtain a valid Florida driver's license prior to hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 
Physical: 
 
  • Light physical work, must have the ability to stand, sit for prolonged periods of time and occasionally lift computer equipment up to 20 lbs.
 
Work Environment: 
 
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
 
 
Sensory: 
 
  • The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of information systems
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare pertinent records
  • Experience in use of computers and good communication skills.
