Director of Product - Course Experience
Art of Problem Solving · San Diego, CA (Hybrid)
At AoPS, we are world leaders in teaching advanced mathematics. We train many of the most elite mathematicians in the world, including all members of the US International Math Olympiad team. Despite this impact, AoPS remains relatively unknown to the broader public.
AoPS is unique because it is vertically integrated: it develops its own curriculum, runs its own physical learning centers, employs teachers, and has a robust and capable product, design, and engineering team. Today, our curriculum and academic programs are absolutely world-class, but our digital experiences are dated. Your job will be to reimagine our digital learning experience, and to push the upper bounds of great teaching and learning.
We are hiring for a Director of Product - Course Experience who will report to the Chief Product Officer and own the digital learning experiences across all our course offerings—from classroom technology for in-person and online courses to self-paced learning platforms and homework systems.
The Director of Product - Course Experience will be:
- Developing new live classroom products used by teachers and students for all AoPS in-person and online course offerings
- Developing new self-paced and asynchronous learning experiences that leverage AoPS’s world-class curriculum and recent advances in AI
- Creating radically new learning experiences for pushing the ceiling of great math education, including designs that combine hardware, software, and new AI tools
- Managing a team of product managers working on different components of the learning journey
- Fostering a "demo culture" where design ideas are quickly prototyped and tested with real students and teachers
- Creating a culture of storytelling, a deep understanding of customer journeys, and attention to the details of a quality user experience
- Collaborating with engineering, design, curriculum development, course delivery, customer service and marketing teams to ensure cohesive and high-quality execution
You might be a good fit for this position if...
- You hold a high bar for great products, have strong opinions, and can evangelize great learning experience across the company
- You have well-developed opinions about pedagogy and learning experiences
- You are excited for the future of AI tutoring, but also know that the best tutors sometimes just wait patiently and say nothing
- You have experience in high-velocity product teams, and can rally teams to fast-paced and high-quality execution
- You're willing to throw away good ideas in pursuit of great ones
- You enjoy spending time with students and teachers in classrooms and are excited to make things intuitive and obvious for them
- You're curious about mathematics and are eager to dive into what makes a truly great learning experience
