Position Summary
The Communications Specialist supports the organization’s outreach and engagement efforts by managing digital communications, marketing assets, and content production. This role is responsible for writing and distributing monthly newsletters to supporters, maintaining email campaigns through Constant Contact, and ensuring consistent, mission-aligned messaging across all digital platforms.
The Communications Specialist will manage website updates and optimize online visibility through SEO keyword strategy and content management. They will oversee social media advertising campaigns, create engaging digital assets for research projects, and produce short video abstracts that highlight key findings and initiatives for use on the website and social channels.
This position requires strong writing, design, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to translate complex research into accessible, compelling content that engages diverse audiences and advances the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Communications
- Write, edit, and distribute monthly newsletters that highlight research updates, events, and impact stories.
- Develop and manage targeted email campaigns using Constant Contact, tracking engagement and optimizing outreach.
- Create clear, accessible content that communicates scientific research and program outcomes to non-specialist audiences.
- Produce short video abstracts and multimedia content summarizing key research findings and initiatives.
Digital & Web Management
- Maintain and update the Center’s website, ensuring content accuracy, relevance, and accessibility.
- Implement SEO strategies, including keyword development, metadata optimization, and analytics tracking, to expand visibility.

- Manage the Center’s social media accounts and advertising campaigns to grow awareness and engagement.
- Monitor analytics and adapt strategies based on performance metrics and audience insights.
Research & Project Support
- Collaborate with researchers and project teams to design infographics, visuals, and communication materials that accompany publications or presentations.
- Develop dissemination materials that make research findings accessible to policymakers, practitioners, and the public.
- Support the production of branded communication materials that advance the Center’s mission and research identity.
Annual Report & Brand Consistency
- Lead the development and production of the Center’s annual report, coordinating with staff and researchers to present achievements, data, and impact in a visually compelling and cohesive format.
- Create and maintain a communications style guide that ensures consistent voice, tone, and visual identity across all materials.
- Develop branded templates and guidance for project managers to ensure all research outputs and public-facing materials align with the Center’s visual and editorial standards

Required Qualifications
- Experience working in fields related to violence prevention, child sexual abuse (CSA) prevention, gender-based violence, or public health research and education.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or digital media—preferably within a nonprofit, academic, or research environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing email campaigns (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar).
- Experience managing websites (WordPress, Squarespace, or similar) and applying basic SEO principles.
- Familiarity with social media management tools and paid advertising (Meta Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, or similar).
- Experience communicating complex scientific findings into accessible materials for a variety of stakeholders.
What you can expect from The Center
- $35 to $40 per hour.
- Work from home stipends for phone, internet, utilities, and equipment. Staff must maintain a home office with internet and phone access; a computer and necessary software will be provided.
- Health insurance plan.
- The Center staff work from home. However, we are a highly collaborative, active team with regular interaction.
