The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency that focuses on issues critical to the region’s success, including growth and development, transportation, water resources, services for older adults and workforce solutions. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region’s collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. This is done through professional planning initiatives, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.

The ARC Forecasting and Modeling Team is seeking a part-time, temporary team member to be responsible for spatial data collection and processing to support spatial economic model development, and socioeconomic forecasting within Research and Innovation Department. 

The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with various local government data, including parcels, tax digest, zoning, land use and census data, understand data management, and have the skills to process related data using ESRI ArcGIS applications. To be successful, the candidate should have solid time management skills, ability to work independently and possess a desire to learn, overcome challenges and solve problems. 

This temporary position is not eligible for benefits, working up to 29 hours per week.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Collects and process various spatial data, including census data, parcel data, tax digests, zoning data, land use data, group quarters, college enrollment, and regional growth data;
  • Supports population & employment estimation, socioeconomic forecasting, spatial economic modeling, and analysis of regional growth scenarios;
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support agency goals and objectives.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Pursing an undergraduate or graduate degree in city and regional planning, urban studies, public policy, GIS, and/or statistics; 

OR 

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree candidate in city and regional planning, urban studies, public policy, GIS or statistics or related field.
  • Working experience and knowledge in spatial economics, city and regional planning, urban studies, land use modeling, transportation modeling, statistical analysis, and database management.
  •  Experience using census data and various local government data.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

 

  • Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap or Pro) proficiency;
  • Possess strong analytical and technical skills;
  • Possess strong oral and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to establish priorities and organize work;
  • Ability to multi-task with attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently with general instructions;
  • Ability to work well in a team environment;
