Role Summary

We're looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join us at a pivotal moment as we prepare to launch our MVP product. This isn't just about writing code, it's about true 0-1 building and ownership. You'll have real influence over our engineering direction, decisions, and how we build for the long term.

In this role, you'll build intuitive, clean interfaces that make complex public sector hiring feel simple and attainable. You'll work closely with our founding team to transform ideas into responsive, performant, and accessible user experiences that serve both job seekers and government hiring teams.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of GovSkills leadership and our Engineering Director, you will be responsible for:

Frontend Development

• Build and maintain the core user interfaces for our MVP product responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces
• Translate Figma mockups and prototypes into high-quality production code using modern frameworks moving quickly from concept to launch
• Own key frontend features from design through implementation, testing, and deployment
• Iterate rapidly based on user feedback, analytics, and product priorities as we refine our product-market fit

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Work directly with founders, designers, and product leads to define features and prioritize ruthlessly
• Participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, technical discussions, and architectural decisions
• PrPresent technical approaches and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical team members, balancing speed with quality

Quality, Testing & Continuous Improvement

• Use analytics, user feedback, and performance metrics to inform product development cycles.
• Implement reusable components and contribute to evolving design systems.
• Keep up with evolving frontend technologies and help bring best practices into our workflow.

Qualifications

• 4-7 years of professional experience building modern web products.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and at least one modern framework and corresponding meta-framework (React/Next.js, Svelte/SvelteKit, etc.).
• Deep understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG), responsive layouts, and browser performance optimization.
• Familiarity interfacing with technologies and services across the stack including authentication, databases, APIs, and other backend services.
• Experience working in agile or iterative development environments.
• Ability to manage multiple features, adapt to shifting priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality work on schedule.

Bonus Points For

• Previous startup experience, especially in 0-1 product development or MVP launches
• Familiarity with application system design and cloud infrastructure management.
• Management and mentoring of engineering talent.
• Experience integrating machine learning workflows and complex data pipelines into applications.
