Turn real-world sensor and weather data into grid intelligence for the next generation of electricity infrastructure. 

LineVision deploys IoT sensors on transmission towers, generating continuous streams of environmental weather data and transmission line behavior that power our Dynamic Line Rating platform. As a Data Science Co-Op, you’ll dig into that data alongside experienced data scientists: formulating hypotheses, building analyses, and developing internal visualization tools that help drive higher accuracy and consistency. You’ll be trusted to contribute from day one, tackling real-world challenges at the intersection of physical science, weather modeling, and data analytics.

What will you do?

Core Responsibilities and Key Performance Objectives

• Investigate patterns and anomalies in LineVision sensor and weather data streams by formulating and testing your own data-driven hypotheses, and communicating results through clear, compelling visualizations
• Collaborate closely with our Colorado-based Atmospheric Science team to support weather forecasting initiatives, including validating wind model inputs and outputs against ground-truth observations from our network of field-deployed weather stations
• Support the analysis and visualization of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, helping the team understand how terrain, vegetation, and atmospheric conditions shape wind flow along transmission corridors
• Build and improve internal tools that help the Data Science team scale repeatable analytics across our growing network of sensor installation sites
• Contribute to algorithmic improvements for detecting rare, weather-driven grid events such as conductor galloping and icing
• Work closely with Software Engineering and Data Engineering teams to help productionize data science findings and deliver results to customers following our rigorous change management process
• Communicate technical results to diverse audiences, from atmospheric scientists and data scientists to business stakeholders, adapting your explanations to different technical backgrounds

What do you need to succeed in this role?

• Strong Python programming skills and experience applying them to real problems
• Fluency with core data science tools: pandas, numpy, matplotlib, Jupyter notebooks
• Data analysis and statistical reasoning skills: can you tell a compelling story from noisy, high volume data?
• Scientific mindset: form hypotheses, validate results, and question unexpected outputs
• Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Comfort using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to accelerate development
• A genuine passion for environmental science, weather, or the physical world—we work at the intersection of climate, energy, and infrastructure
• Bonus: A background or coursework in atmospheric science, meteorology, environmental science, physics, or a related physical science
• Bonus: Exposure to geospatial or raster data (e.g. NetCDF, GeoTIFF, xarray) or numerical weather model outputs (HRRR, ERA5, etc.)
• Bonus: Familiarity with CFD or fluid dynamics concepts

This role is a great fit for physical science or engineering students looking to make a pivot into data science, or data science students with a background in physical or atmospheric science looking to break into clean energy technology.

Work Schedule

The ideal candidate would be available for a minimum of 6 months, up to the full 8 month co-op term, working 40 hours a week. LineVision has a standard US holiday schedule, and up to a week of additional unpaid time off is permissible. Upon successful co-op completion, you will be considered for a full-time position upon graduation.

Compensation: $25 per hour
