SENIOR RUBY ON RAILS DEVELOPER

Are you interested in using Ruby on Rails to design and improve software systems that help social service professionals access meaningful and reliable data?
We seek a senior Ruby on Rails software engineer to lead complex development efforts for our web-based applications that support social service system reporting and analysis. In this role, you will influence technical architecture, mentor engineers, and ensure our systems are scalable, secure, and high performing. You will collaborate across teams, contribute to continuous improvement, and help advance tools that directly impact decision making and outcomes in social services.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Get ready to:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, high-performance software systems that support Evident Change’s mission
- Lead design discussions and provide architectural guidance across complex application development efforts
- Conduct and lead code reviews, offering constructive feedback and enforcing coding standards and best practices
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting skill development and technical growth
- Evaluate and recommend tools, libraries, and frameworks to improve development efficiency and system performance
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis to ensure system reliability and continuous improvement
OUR COMPENSATION AND BENEFIT OFFERINGS
The national average salary for this position ranges between $100,000 and $110,000 per year. Compensation within this range is dependent on experience, parity with peers, and where an employee lives.

WHO SHOULD APPLY TO EVIDENT CHANGE?
Applicants who meet these essential qualifications will be considered a candidate for this role.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- A minimum of 5–8 years of experience in software development; Ruby on Rails development is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the following technologies: Hotwire (Turbo + Stimulus); Tailwind CSS; PostgreSQL; RSpec and FactoryBot (for testing).
- Advanced experience with Git, including code review workflows and CI/CD integration.
- Advanced SQL optimization and data modeling skills.
- Experience designing and building APIs and scalable systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor other engineers.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
Additional assets a candidate may possess include the following.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages or frameworks.
- Experience with performance tuning and system optimization.
- Strong system design skills and familiarity with modern architectural patterns.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional and non-technical stakeholders.
