Job Description:

State Power Fund is devoted to measuring and amplifying the power of state-based grassroots organizing groups.  We work with partner organizations across the country to create and standardize measurements of grassroots power at the state and local levels by developing the analytics skills of their data managers, facilitating academic research partnerships, and pursuing independent research projects.  Some of our previous research can be found here: https://www.dpifund.org/research

We are seeking a Data and Research Analyst to join our team.  In this role, you will have a variety of responsibilities, including providing one-on-one coaching and developing relationships  with data managers at our partner organizations, assisting in the collection and analysis of grassroots organizing data, and collaborating with colleagues to develop, run, and analyze new research projects.  Work in this role will be largely self-directed, so you must be able to set and meet your own goals without needing constant oversight.  The ideal candidate is curious, resourceful, and passionate about both developing grassroots political power and advancing their own skills as an analyst.  While we are primarily looking for an early-to-mid-career analyst, more experienced applicants are encouraged to apply - other positions may become available soon.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative social science field (e.g., Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics) or equivalent experience, plus at least 2 years of relevant experience in data analysis, research, or a related field.

We welcome candidates who have developed strong analytical skills through a variety of pathways, including professional experience, academic training, or self-directed learning.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience with data transformation and visualization in R
  • Experience using SQL to reorganize and transform data
  • Some familiarity with dashboarding tools such as Looker Studio, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Solid understanding of and experience applying statistical methods, including but not limited to:
    • Cross-tabulations
    • Between- and Within-subjects t-tests and ANOVA
    • Linear and Logisitic Multivariate Regression
  • Hands-on experience with data collection, cleaning, transformation, and analysis in the service of answering research questions
  • Proactive and motivated
  • Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines, including managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, low-error work
  • Comfort working both collaboratively in small teams and independently
  • Independent problem-solving skills, with good judgment about when to seek input or support
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Mission-driven

Additional nice-to-haves:

  • Experience working in or with grassroots organizing groups or unions
  • Knowledge of CRMs such as Everyaction or Salesforce
  • Experience with data engineering and management tools
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Skilled in qualitative analytics such as survey design, text analysis, natural language processing, or sentiment analysis
  • Experience teaching or training in a professional environment
  • Experience providing one-on-one coaching relationships
  • Experience developing and managing research projects
